Carpathians
The Carpathians form a large arch, split in three components - the Orientals, Meridionals and Occidentals Carpathians - each of them longer than 400 km and wide of about 80-150 km. They concentrate a large number of touristic objectives, placed especially in the valleys. Because of its position in the centre of the country, this arch formed by the mountains is crossed by a large number of rivers, all going south, towards the Danube, or west, flowing into the Tissa. Specific for all these rivers is their picturesque, sometimes even wild surroundings, especially up their courses, into the mountains. The valleys and gorges like: Valea Prahovei, Valea Oltului, Valea Ialomitei, Valea Buzaului are important touristic regions. All the rivers have modem access ways, either by train or automobile, giving tourists the possibility to go close to the springs. Along the valleys are numerous localities, with beautiful views and in an exceptional natural frame. The Carpathians' itineraries can be covered the entire year. Each time the tourist has new satisfactions. In the winter, the Carpathians are access ways towards the winter sports resorts like Sinaia, Predeal, Bu§teni, Poiana Brasov, Semenic, Voineasa, Balea. During the other seasons the mountains are beautiful as they are in a continuos change. The presence of dams allows tourists to practice nautical sports at Vidraru, Arges, and on the accumulation lakes of Olt, Dambovita or Buzau.

Why carmakers aren't coming back anytime soonWith the home stretch in sight, 2010 is shaping up to be a weaker U.S. auto market than predicted, probably closer to 11.5 million new-vehicle deliveries, rather than the 12 million that automakers and forecasters had figured - and hoped - would be sold.
What peak oil? Why an oil glut is aheadIn May, less than a month after the blowout of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico, a key milestone was achieved with little notice: Total U.S. supplies of petroleum and products refined from it (including the Strategic Petroleum Reserve) surpassed 1.8 billion barrels, reaching the highest level in the last 20 years. Since then the total has continued to edge upward, hitting 1.87 billion barrels in the week ended August 27, according to the Energy Information Administration.
Oil fears slam one beach, but spare anotherIt's Florida's reputation that's stained - not its beaches. But some cities along Florida's panhandle are faring better than others.

Housing quagmire: Is it time to remove relief? For the growing number of struggling homeowners in this country, more help is on the way. Additional aid from the federal government will begin making its way to them next month -- one program would help qualified homeowners refinance their mortgages after seeing their property values fall below the amount they owe, and the other includes another round of funding to help the unemployed or underemployed with their payments.
A reward for responsible homeownersThe government has bailed out Wall Street firms, giant banks, creditors of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- and is trying to bail out people who've defaulted or are about to default on their mortgages. But let's say you're a hardworking family that has done nothing wrong except buy a home when the housing bubble was at its peak a few years ago. Your mortgage is now way underwater, but you're still making payments because you want to stay in your home -- and you're actually honorable. You're paying for everyone else's bailout, but because you have no equity in your house, you can't refinance to take advantage of the ultra-low mortgage rates that Uncle Sam's bailout strategy has produced. To use the technical term, you're being screwed.
Home prices gain 3.6% in past yearDespite a recent spate of bad news coming out of the housing industry, home prices show signs of stabilizing.
