| The Carpathians form a large arch, split in three components - the Orientals, Meridionals and Occidentals Carpathians - each of them longer than 400 km and wide of about 80-150 km. They concentrate a large number of touristic
objectives, placed especially in the valleys. Because of its position in the centre of the country, this arch formed by the mountains is crossed by a large number of rivers, all going south, towards the Danube, or west, flowing into the Tissa. Specific for all these rivers is their picturesque, sometimes even wild surroundings, especially up their courses, into the mountains. The valleys and gorges like: Valea Prahovei, Valea Oltului, Valea Ialomitei, Valea Buzaului are important touristic regions. All the rivers have modem access ways, either by train or automobile, giving tourists the possibility to go close to the springs. Along the valleys are numerous localities, with beautiful views and in an exceptional natural frame. The Carpathians' itineraries can be covered the entire year. Each time the tourist has new satisfactions. In the winter, the Carpathians are access ways towards the winter sports resorts like Sinaia, Predeal, Bu§teni, Poiana Brasov, Semenic, Voineasa, Balea. During the other seasons the mountains are beautiful as they are in a continuos change. The presence of dams allows tourists to practice nautical sports at Vidraru, Arges, and on the accumulation lakes of Olt, Dambovita or Buzau. |
